Tiger Woods has decided to take a break from golf in order to try to work on his marriage and on himself.  Now the question is – will he succeed?

I just happened to notice that the signature of Tiger Woods was prominently displayed on the home page of his official website in December, 2009. The article has now been moved to the website's archives, but you can still see a small version of what I assume to be his actual signature about a quarter of the page down if you click here.

Being a handwriting analyst, I decided to examine the signature of Tiger Woods.  Handwriting analysis can provide insight into the writer’s personality.  Generally, the signature represents the public persona and is not necessarily representative of how the person acts in private.  Because many people act differently in public than they do in private, a person’s signature can and often does vary significantly from their “regular” handwriting.

The signature of Tiger Woods is quite interesting.  The first thing that I noticed is that Tiger Woods appears to be a very vain person.  In handwriting analysis, vanity is established when the height of the upper zone letters (“d” and ”t” for example) is at least two and a half to three times larger than the middle zone letters (such as “i” and “o”).  In Tiger’s signature, the “d” in his last name dwarfs the two “o”’s and the “s.”  Note the height in Tiger’s capital “T” and capital “W” as well.  Tiger Woods feels that he needs to be right at all times and that he always needs to be on top.  His signature indicates that he considers himself to be superior to other people and, as a result, he can become forceful and pushy.

Another remarkable letter in Tiger’s signature is the “g” in his first name.  Notice how inflated the lower loop of the “g” is.  In handwriting analysis, this indicates that Tiger Woods has an extreme need for variety in his life.  Tiger’s signature indicates that he is a person who constantly craves new experiences and excitement.  This may explain the need for Tiger Woods to cheat on his wife with multiple women.  Because a need for variety is a part of Tiger’s basic personality, it may be difficult for him to overcome this need and remain faithful to his wife in the future.

The long horizontal stroke following the “s” at the end of Tiger’s last name in his signature indicates that he is extremely cautious in his decision-making when it comes to his public life.  His signature indicates that he is a person who needs to consider all of the possible outcomes of a decision before he makes a move publicly.  This trait may explain how Tiger Woods was able to keep his infidelity secret for so long and why it took him so long to publicly acknowledge his indiscretions once the news hit the mainstream media.

Tiger Woods has a fascinating signature, and there are many other points that could be made about his handwriting.  Based on the personality traits that are present in Tiger’s signature, it is the author’s personal opinion that Tiger Woods is going to have a long, hard struggle ahead as he attempts to remain faithful in his marriage.
